When Andrew and Lucy contacted us in 2019 about renovating an old, no-frills motel in Maroochydore into something stylish, we said we have to win this job!
[/mk_fancy_title][mk_padding_divider size=”30″ visibility=”visible-sm”][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1592455976691{margin-bottom: 0px !important;}”]The owners had a vision for a laid-back, coastal boutique hotel with a colour palette of neutral tones, timber, and tropical greenery. A tranquil place with stylish coziness rather than glam opulence. This is a first of its kind on the Sunshine Coast and we loved seeing the impressive transformation from a dark and drab 37-year-old motel into a beautifully restored hotel.
The original 9 room River Park Maroochy Motel with its low lying brown roof has been restored into a 10 room boutique hotel with a lush tropical garden area with lounges scattered across the lawn, charming swimming pool and the iconic pull-up parking spots at the front doors. A vintage truck sits permanently beside the garden area where guests can check into their room and enjoy a craft beer or locally roasted Costa Noosa coffee. The motel came with a defined ‘motor inn’ visual character and with a little reimagining, custom made furniture, local artwork, and lots of tradies on-site, the motel now has a new life.
Advice for motel renovators
We asked Andrew and Lucy for their advice for someone looking to renovate a motel “…to choose your contractor very carefully, I often think that if I had chosen the wrong contractor with everything that we went through, with my accident and during the process, it would have been very difficult to deliver what we delivered …. someone that you get on with well, someone you can work with well, and someone that shares the same vision as you”.
Our advice… plan, plan, plan! Engage the right team of contractors and suppliers and maintain excellent communication before and during the project. We were aligned with our clients long before we started the project with regard to understanding their vision, design brief, professionalism, and communication. We cannot emphasise how important this is to the success of every project we do no matter how big or small.
